The British-French Concorde was the only passenger commercial aircraft that flew at Mach 2. The Concorde began service in 1976 and flew from London or Paris to JFK Airport in New York or Dulles Airport in Washington, DC, in half the time of any other passenger plane. Concorde had a superior safety record until the July 2000 crash of Air France 4790. The above picture was taken in 2003 during a flyover for Britain's Queen Elizabeth's 50th anniversary. The world situation choked off the recovery of Concorde from the 2000 crash. The Concorde was soon retired and the remaining aircraft sent to air museums, one of which is the Museum of Flight in Seattle. Concorde remains the only supersonic commercial passenger aircraft ever flown.
